It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that
we announce the sudden but peaceful passing and loss of a dedicated
umpire, Leonard Richard Solomon on April
21st, 2025 of Bilijk
First Nation surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at the
Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital with his sisters by his
side.
Born on July
7th, 1973, from Bilijk First Nation, Leonard
was the son of Richard J. Solomon and Mary Marguerita Solomon and
stepmother Lois Francis Solomon. Leonard is predeceased by his mother
Marguerita, his brother Dennis Solomon, his son Tyrell Francis and his
nephew Lucas Solomon-Polchies (uncle
luc).
Leonard is survived by his
Father Richard Solomon, Stepmom Lois Francis Solomon, his son Julian
Younker, sisters Lenore Solomon Polchies (William), Terrilee Solomon
(Andy), brothers Jeffery Paul, Jeremy J Augustine, Dean Francis, Lance
Francis (Meghan), Clint Francis (Amy) and chosen sister Barb Brown. He
is also survived by his nieces and nephews who he cared for and loved
very dearly, his god children Caleb Francis and Miranda Berube, as
well as many cousins, and close family
friends.
Leonard was an umpire for
many years. He loved the game. He had rules that he was dedicated to
maintaining and he kept up closely with any changes in them, so when
he made a call during the game you knew it was always
final.
In March of 2024 Leonard was
presented with an award for 10 years of dedication to officiating from
Fredericton Softball Umpire Association and before that many other
awards for his accomplishments and excellent performance on the field
in the sport that he truly cherished with his whole
heart.
Anyone who knew Leonard, got
the pleasure of having conversations about softball and got to hear
about his umpiring experiences and knew you could truly see the
passion in his eyes- many of those people better knew him as Kash
Lee.
He was and always will be
well loved and well respected within and around his home community and
will forever be well known for his contributions and dedications to
softball. We will miss him saying
“Your out of Here”. We will always search for him behind
that plate. A man of style, decked out in his Oakley sunglasses. He
loved music especially Pink Floyd, and loved to sing his heart out and
make a dance on the spot. He will also be remembered for his love for
his community and neighbours, including all the cats and dogs too. He
was an animal lover, cats specifically and he always had a house full
whether they were truly his or one that he decided was part of the
family and just decided to spend time
with.
For those attending the
Funeral Service the family has requested that you wear colors similar
to Softball Canada blue or baseball jersey to honor
Leonard.
Resting at his requested
resting spot, his home 414 Kingsclear Ave, Bilijk First Nation on
Wednesday April 23rd from 11AM until
Thursday 11 AM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 12 Noon from
St. Ann’s Catholic Church on Thursday April
24th, 2025. Interment to follow in
the adjoining cemetery.
A reception will be held in the Training Center
Immediately following the burial.
The Solomon family would
like to thank the doctors and nurses in the Emergency Room and ICU
Department at the DECH- especially nurses Emma, Avery and
Chantele of the ICU who provided
compassionate care and comfort to Leonard in his final
days.
Donations in his memory can
be made to Softball Canada or the Canadian Lung
Association.
