Obituary of Leonard “Len” Francis Rideout, Kitchener, ON, Glace Bay
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard (Len) Francis Rideout on December 15, 2024, in Kitchener, Ontario, at the age of 61. Len was born on March 28, 1963, in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, and he carried the warmth and resilience of his Cape Breton roots with him throughout his life.
Len is lovingly remembered by his eight children: Jennifer (Michael), Patricia (Nathaniel), James, Nathan (Deserae), Julia, Alicia (Mat), Carolyn (Luc) and Gail, and his grand children Penelope, Amelia, Sophia and Jacques who were his greatest pride and joy. He is survived by his brother John Blair Mahe.
Len was a big advocate for education. He spoke fondly of all of his children’s accomplishments. He was exceeding proud of his two military sons and of his daughters, who achieved pursuits in the trades, university education, and those whom are actively pursuing higher education. He is predeceased by his beloved daughter Kara, his mother Mary, and his brothers Billy and Jerry. Len’s family and friends take comfort in knowing he is reunited with them, and is also surrounded by the love of our beloved pets who have passed away.
An avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan, Leonard’s passion for hockey could spark a lively conversation with anyone he met. Many happy memories were with Len coaching his son Nathan at hockey, or watching Maple Leafs games with his children. He loved playing cards, often turning games into cherished moments with his children. A regular at Tim Hortons, Len found joy in simple pleasures such as a great coffee or tea. His loyal dog, Max, was his constant companion and source of comfort for many years. We know Max will miss him very much.
Len was known for his big heart, easy laugh, love for animals, sharp wit and amazing sense of humor. Though his time with us feels far too short, his memory will continue to inspire those who knew him.
A celebration of life took place at Kitchener Funeral Homes on December 23rd, 2024 at 2pm.
A private funeral service and reception will take place at a later date in V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 16 Reserve Street, Glace Bay, Nova Scotia.
