(1934 – 2025)
(RCAF/Canadian Forces 42 years). Len Herman, of Chemainus and Duncan born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta, passed away at age 90.
Beloved husband and best friend of Sheila (nee Scott). Loving father of Shannon Baynham (Paul) of Ottawa, Ont. and Colleen Herman (Chris Burton) of Kelowna, B.C. “Gramps” to his “big guys”, Benjamin (Samantha), Matthew and James (Samantha), and great-grandfather of Lucy, Walter, Charlie and Thomas. He will also be remembered by his brother-in-law Lewis Scott (Manon).
At Len’s request, there are no formal funeral services. His ashes will be placed in Canada’s National Military Cemetery of the Canadian Forces in Beechwood Cemetery, Ottawa. Len’s plan was to have his ashes scattered at home plate in Olympic Stadium, former home of the Montreal Expos. Because of the team’s demise, he is probably playing catch with the late Expos players and his ball playing friends in the Field of Dreams.
Len loved his sports; football, baseball, hockey and could remember players names and scores going back to the 1940’s, with fantastic recall. He was a natural wordsmith and would often relate historical tales to anyone who would listen.
