Leona Chapados Obituary
Leona Rose Chapados
Feb 24, 1966 – Jan 6, 2025
It is with immense sadness that the family of Leona Rose Chapados announce her untimely passing which occurred on January 6, 2025, at the Nanaimo Regional General Hospital, Nanaimo, BC. Leona passed peacefully in the arms of her little sister, Jenny Dawn, due to complications from a lung infection.
Born in Saint John, NB, she was the daughter of the late Shirley Chapados (2003) and George Chapados (1971). She is predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Dorothy Lovett and Hazen McGaghney, eldest sister Laverne Dean, and nephews Bruce and Kevin.
Leona grew up in Saint John and attended St. Malachy’s High School but moved to BC in her early 20’s looking to heal a broken heart. Leona loved passionately and fought fiercely, she knew how to live in the moment and if you shared a moment with her, you most likely remember it. Leona was an old soul with a free spirit and lived her life unapologetically. Just Lee, to most of her friends, she made many from the East to the West Coast. Whether dining with aristocrats’ or dancing with paupers; she had a true understanding of the human condition and could fit in anywhere. Lee was a champion for the underdog and if you were knee deep in it, you could expect her to jump in with you. Vibrant, funny, outgoing and fiercely independent, Leona could capture the attention in any room. Men loved her, women envied her and her family adored her. She led a storied life that ended all too soon. We are woven in time my dear sweet sister and though you have left this place you will never leave our hearts. Love you forever….
Survived by her one true, unspoken love, her son, Patrick Andrew, her best friend, Joe Hutt, BC, her siblings Beverly Chapados, BC, Brian Corbett, ON, Brenda Chase (Peter),NB, Jennifer Chapados, AB and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation and thanks to the doctors and nurses of the ICU at the North Island Hospital in Courtenay, BC and the ICU at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in Nanaimo, BC, who did everything in their power to save her life and comfort those left to grieve.
