It is with great sadness that we the family, of Leona Patricia Faye (Wile) Marr, announce that she passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 15, 2025, after valiant attempts to resuscitate her at both the Gladys Manning Retirement Home and at Hants Community Hospital. Born August 14, 1944, Leona was a daughter of the late Alfred “Basil” and Clarissa Margaret (Kelly/Kelley) Wile. She was always proud to tell people that she was born at her grandparent’s farmhouse in Three Mile Plains, Norris and Ethel Kelley.
Leona was a graduate of Kaye Anslow’s Business School, Windsor, after which she pursued a career in administration. She worked at the Nova Scotia Power Commission; soon after it became Nova Scotia Power Corporation, Halifax; Hants County Vocational School, Windsor; Victoria General Hospital Corporation, London, Ontario and Sepracor Canada, Windsor.
Leona married Russell “Keith” Marr, November 9, 1974 in Christ Church Anglican, Windsor. Together, they started and operated Marr’s Parcel Pick-Up business for a number of years while she continued to work at the vocational school. Leona’s big enjoyment before and after she retired was travelling, which she did with family and friends. Leona was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, No. 009, Windsor, for many years, helping out with bingos, dances and dinners when she was younger. She was also a member of the Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary in later years.
Leona is survived by her sister, Maxine (Bryant) Lunn; brother, Alfred (Bev) Wile and sister-in-law, Connie Kelley; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, Leona was predeceased by her husband, Keith Marr (in 2000); brother, Peter Kelley; infant sister, Clarissa Wile and her foster brother, Garnet Mason.
Thank you to EHS, the Windsor Fire Department, residents and staff at Gladys Manning Retirement Home and Dr. Ahmad and the staff at Hants Community Hospital Emergency Department.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317), where a funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29, Father Tom Henderson officiating. Private family interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor. A reception will be held in the Three Mile Plains Community Hall, 4474 Hwy 1, Three Mile Plains. Donations in memory of Leona may be made to St. Thomas Anglican Church, C/O 76 Old Halifax Road West, Three Mile Plains, NS B0N 2T0; Hants Community Hospital Auxiliary, 89 Payzant Drive, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 or a charity of one’s choice.
