C’est avec une grande tristesse que la famille annonce son décès dimanche soir, le 12 janvier 2025 à l’âge de 96 ans. Fils de feu Edouard Ménard et de feu Edwidge (Quesnel). Époux bien-aimé de Germaine Beaulieu (décédée). Père affectueux de Claude, Ronald (Claire), Albert (Jeannette), Diane (Roger), Raymond (Michelle) et Carole (John – décédé). Pépère affectueux de Michel, Joanne, Renée, Kimberly-Anne, Alain, Caroline, Richard (prédécédé), Daniel, Patrick, Sean (prédécédé), Richard et Zachary et grand-père spécial de 17 arrière-petits-enfants. Prédécédé par ses frères et sœurs Octave, Delphis (Margaret), Alphonse (Simone), Rhéal (Gabrielle), Régina Labrosse (Yvon), Lucienne Moncion (Armand), Olive et Laurette et de nombreux neveux et nièces.
Léo est né le 26 janvier 1928 et a passé son enfance sur la ferme familiale dans la communauté de Hanmer (Dominion Dr). En 1948, il a épousé l’amour de sa vie, Germaine, et a fondé sa famille. Dans les années 1950, il a acheté une propriété à Blezard Valley où il a construit sa maison avec force et détermination. Il a travaillé pour Inco pendant 42 ans en tant que chef mécanicien souterrain et, après avoir pris sa retraite, il est déménagé à Sudbury où Germaine et lui ont fait de leur nouvelle maison un véritable foyer.
Léo était très heureux d’aider ses enfants et d’autres personnes à réaliser des projets de rénovation et des travaux mécaniques, en particulier sur des motoneiges et des voitures. Il était connu comme un « homme à tout faire » et prenait toujours le temps de donner un coup de main. Il aimait également faire du camping avec sa femme et ses enfants, passer du temps avec ses petits-enfants et ses arrière-petits-enfants et trouvait du réconfort en leur présence, surtout dans les dernières années de sa vie. Léo était un travailleur acharné qui visait la perfection et était un homme de foi convaincu. Il croyait aux valeurs familiales et a réconforté sa famille jusqu’à la fin. Il sera toujours le patriarche et nous lui serons toujours reconnaissants pour son amour inconditionnel.
Nous remercions tout particulièrement Ken, David, Sherry et l’infirmière Stephanie de Bayshore, ainsi que Christine, Kayla et Paul du 5e étage de HSN et le Dr. Herrinen pour les soins extraordinaires qu’ils et le dévouement dont ils ont fait preuve tout au long de ce voyage.
La famille recevra parentés et amis à la COOPÉRATIVE FUNÉRAIRE, 222 boul. Lasalle, le dimanche 26 janvier 2025 de 14 h à 17 h et de 19 h à 21 h. Une messe funéraire sera célébrée le lundi 27 janvier 2025 à 10 h 30 à la Paroisse St-Jean-de-Brébeuf, Sudbury.

It is with great sadness that the family announces his passing Sunday night, January 12th, 2025 at the age of 96 years. Son of the late Edouard Menard and late Edwidge (Quesnel). Beloved husband of Germaine Beaulieu (predeceased). Loving father of Claude, Ronald (Claire), Albert (Jeannette), Diane (Roger), Raymond (Michelle) and Carole (John-predeceased). Doting Pepére of Michel, Joanne, Renee, Kimberly-Anne, Alain, Caroline, Richard (predeceased), Daniel, Patrick, Sean (predeceased), Richard and Zachary and special Grand-Pepére to 17 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his siblings Octave, Delphis (Margaret), Alphonse (Simone), Rhéal (Gabrielle), Régina Labrosse (Yvon), Lucienne Moncion (Armand), Olive and Laurette. Sadly missed by many nieces and nephews.
Léo was born on January 26, 1928, and lived his childhood on the family farm in the community of Hanmer (Dominion Dr). In 1948, he married the love of his life, Germaine, and started his family. In the 1950’s, he bought a property in Blezard Valley where he built his house with strength and determination. He worked for Inco for 42 years as an underground mechanic leader and upon retiring, moved to Sudbury where he and Germaine turned their new house into a home.
Léo was the happiest helping his children and others with renovation projects and mechanical work, especially snowmobiles and cars. He was known as a “jack of all trades” and always took the time to lend a helping hand. He also enjoyed camping with his wife and children, loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and found comfort in their presence, especially in the later years. Léo was a hard worker who strived on perfection and was a strong man of faith. He believed in family values and comforted his family until the very end. He will always be the Patriarch, and we will forever be grateful for his unconditional love.

The family will receive relatives and friends at the COOPERATIVE FUNERAL HOME, 222 Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, Sunday, January 26, 2025 from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, January 27, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. at Paroisse St-Jean-de-Brébeuf, Sudbury.
In lieu of flowers, donations by cheque or online to the Alzheimer Society Sudbury would be appreciated.
