It is with heavy hearts that we the family of Leanna Murphy, of Newport, announce her passing on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at age 83, in Dykeland Lodge, Windsor, with family by her side. Born on December 4, 1941 in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Annie (Watson) Brown.
Mom had a way with people. Even the shyest of children would take to her immediately. She loved taking care of all living things. Mom cared for the elderly for decades working as an LPN at Kendall Lane in Windsor. Even while battling dementia and living at Dykeland Lodge she often could not resist helping other seniors in need. Her cooking and baking were famous in her community. She was a member of the South Rawdon United Baptist Church for many years. Leanna was a lady who was always there for her friends and family and provided a shoulder to lean on for many.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Alan Whitehead, Kelly Whynot, Bonnie Wilcox and Brian Murphy; son-in-law, Patrick Whynot; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Kathy Hartt, Laura Caldwell, Joyce McConkey and Marilyn Smith; brothers, Corey, Seldon, Richard, Andy and Tim Brown; many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Mom was predeceased by an infant son, Joey Whitehead; husband, John Murphy; sister, Noreen Sutherland and grandson, Tyson Murphy.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to DeMont Family Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 419 Albert St., Windsor (902-798-8317). A service will be held in the spring with a date and time to be announced later. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Leanna may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia, 112-2719 Gladstone St., Halifax, NS B3K 4W6 or Friends of Dykeland Lodge, 124 Cottage St., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. “Remember Me”
To the living, I am gone,
To the sorrowful, I will never return,
To the angry, I was cheated,
But to the happy, I am at peace,
And to the faithful, I have never left.
I cannot speak, but I can listen.
I cannot be seen, but I can be heard.
So as you stand upon a shore gazing at a beautiful sea,
As you look upon a flower and admire its simplicity,
Remember me.
Remember me in your heart:
Your thoughts, and your memories,
Of the times we loved,
The times we cried,
The times we fought,
The times we laughed.
For if you always think of me, I will never have gone.
