Leah Joy Johnston, age 66 of Thorburn, NS passed away on June, 5 2025 in the Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in New Glasgow she was a daughter of the late Raymond and Margaret (Fraser) Johnston.
Leah has been a lifelong resident of Thorburn where she was a member of Union Presbyterian Church. She worked for over 30 years as a painter.
Leah was a great athlete who began playing field hockey at a young age. She loved to play ringette and hockey and coached for many years. Leah had her own “signature shot”. She was a devoted Montreal Canadians fan.
Leah was a natural caregiver who took great care of her mom and was very dedicated to looking after her nieces and nephews.
She is survived by her brothers Mason (Gisele) Johnston, Brian (Roxanne) Johnston, Colin Johnston; nieces and nephews Christa (Barry), Jeff (Anne), Mark, Janet), Tanya (Mark), Alexis, Judd; sister-in-law Darlene Johnston.
She was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Margaret; brother Gary; sisters in-law Lois and Paula.
There will be no visitation at Leah’s request, a graveside service will be held in the Thorburn Cemetery at a later date.
Donations in memory of Leah may be made to Union Presbyterian Church, Thorburn.
The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to the Aberdeen Hospital Palliative Care staff, Dr. Gregor MacLean and special friends who were so supportive of Leah and her family.
