STURDEVANT, Lawrence Arnold, age 81, passed away on April 5, 2025 at Burlington, Ontario.. Predeceased by his father Martin “James” (21 Feb 1990), mother Helen Beatrice Langstaff (04 Feb 2000) and brother Ronald James (05 Oct 1992). His death will be mourned by his wife of 57 years Shirley Lynn (Van Horne) of Burlington, and children Deb Sturdevant (Michael Patterson) of Southampton, and Trevor Sturdevant (Hilary) and grandson Henry of Burlington. Lawrence was born 22 December 1943 and grew up on the family farm on Lot 1 Concession 12 in Chatham Township, Chatham-Kent. Following public schooling at SS #17, later known as #24, on Highway 40 and Chatham Collegiate Institute (CCI) high school in Chatham, he worked with Libbey Glass, Wallaceburg, before taking a position as a clerk with Canadian Canners in Dresden. He remained with that company (later known as Aylmer Delmonte, Nabisco and Kraft) until his retirement in 2005, in the positions of office manager and financial controller. He also worked at plants located in Waterford, Simcoe, and Leamington before returning to Dresden.
Lawrence is a past member of the Brantford Flying Club and the Simcoe Flying Club. In 2019, he and Shirley relocated to Burlington. Special thanks to the staff at Tansley Woods, dementia care.
Family and friends are invited to join in a celebration of Lawrence’s life at SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME, 1167 Guelph Line (one stop light north of the QEW) on Monday April 14, 2025. Visitation at 12 p.m. followed by 1p.m. funeral and reception. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer Society of Chatham-Kent would be sincerely appreciated by the family. www.smithsfh.com
