In Loving Memory of Lawrence Sr. Edward Payette “Larry”
March 14, 1969 – May 18, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lawrence Sr. Edward Payette on May 18, 2025, at the North Shore Health Network in Blind River, Ontario. Larry passed away peacefully, surrounded by his children and close family.
Born on March 14, 1969, in Blind River, Larry was a proud member of Mississauga First Nation and called Blind River home his entire life. He was a devoted father whose greatest joy came from his children — they were truly his whole world. Larry will be remembered for his warm heart, his sense of humour, and his unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand. Whether through a joke, a smile, or quiet support, he made everyone around him feel seen and cared for.
Larry was a dedicated worker and volunteer. He spent his final months working with Elders in Mississauga First Nation as the Home & Community Care Maintenance Tech — a role that reflected his deep respect for community and care for others. He also gave countless hours to Huron Pines Golf Course, a place he considered one of his most cherished sanctuaries.
Throughout his life, Larry gave his time as a hockey coach and volunteer, always showing up for others with love and laughter. He had many friends and was known for his easygoing nature, endless humour, and the big heart he shared with everyone.
Larry is survived by his beloved children: Denise (Anthony), Lawrence Jr., David (Andrée), Jaksen, and Kobie. He was the loving partner of Olivia Stevens, mother of his youngest children. He was also a loving father figure to Nadine and proudly carried the title “Grandpa Larry” to Nadine’s daughter, Asha. He was the dear brother of Chris Gendreau, Loretta MacLeod (Kyle), Marsha McCallum, Teena Gendreau, John McCallum, the late Dennis Jr., Renee Rose (Jai), and Samantha Robinson (Dexter). He is predeceased by his parents, Doris Payette and Dennis McCallum, and leaves behind his stepfather George Rose and a large, blended family who will miss him dearly.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Mississauga First Nation Sports Complex on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 until the celebration of Larry’s life on Friday, May 23, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. All who knew and loved Larry are welcome to join in honouring his memory.
