Obituary of Laurette St. Gelais
Our mother, Laurette St. Gelais, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2025, at the remarkable age of 104. Beloved mother of late Gerald (1967) (late Sylvia 2019), late Odette (2017) (late Ivan 2018) Kennedy, Georgette (late Charles 2013) Lasota, and George (Elizabeth). Cherished grandmother of Marion (Marty), David (Mimi), late Elaine (2007), Laurie (Domenic), Caroline (Paul), Mary-ellen (Rick), Jacqueline, Elizabeth, Gerard, Mark (Erin), Sean (Sophie), Angie (Brian), Jessica, and Damen. She will be missed by her many great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.
Our mom was the cornerstone of our lives. She treasured the time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love and strength will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have known her. Mom worked on the Mariner Laker for five years as a cook, in restaurants, then of course when pickles and tomatoes were in season off to the Canning Factory for the season. Our mom enjoyed cleaning her house. When spring or fall came along it was time to start with curtains, walls, windows and floors. Her passion was gardening and knitting. If we happened to call to check on her and she was watching the mass or saying the rosary, “Call me later” was how she answered. For the seven years my son and I were blessed to care for my mom, I am forever grateful. Every day, I thank God for giving us the strength to support her. Thank you to St. Elizabeth and Para-Med PSW’s, nursing staff for the exceptional care they provided to our mom. Your compassion and dedication meant the world to us.
The family invites relatives and friends to join in honouring Laurette’s incredible life at the WELLAND FUNERAL HOME, CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 827 East Main Street, Welland on Thursday, January 23, 2025, from 2:00 -4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be held at Église Sacré-Couer, 72 Empire St., Welland on Friday, January 24, at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy donations to Église Sacré-Couer would greatly be appreciated by the family.
