Laura Mary Coyle (nee Gionet)
January 24, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laura Mary Coyle (nee Gionet). Laura passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a long battle with cancer. Laura was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. She had a beautiful and caring soul. She loved to laugh, travel and spend time with her family and friends. Laura was an animated storyteller who captivated everyone she met and was often referred to as Laura “long story”.
Laura met the love of her life, Martin, a Scotsman in the British navy, while his ship was on exercise in Halifax 50 years ago. They were engaged within 10 days and married a year later in England. After several years in the UK, they decided to move back to Canada to start a family.
Laura was adventurous and loved to experience as much of the world as it had to offer; from driving an ATV through the Namibian desert, scuba diving in the Galapagos Island, taking a camper through Australia to snorkel the great barrier reef, to mention only a few. Laura believed there were no problems, only solutions. This left her grandchildren, who they referred to as Lolo, to believe she could fix almost anything.
She is survived by her husband Martin Coyle; her two daughters Nicole Coyle-Murphy (Brent Murphy) and Michelle Coyle (Glenn Connolly); her grandchildren Callum Murphy, Kiera Murphy, Aila Murphy, and Thomas Connolly; her sisters Adele (Bobby Paquin); Anne (Michael Leggat); her brother Dennis (Heather Gionet); and her many nieces, nephews, and honorary children who meant so much to her.
Cremation has already taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
