Obituary
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Laura, at Emmanuel House surrounded by love and prayer. Laura peacefully entered the arms of our Lord on April 11, 2025 in her 90th year.
Laura is reunited with her loving husband and soul mate, Jose, who shared a lifetime of love and unwavering companionship and her infant child, Laura Maria, whom she longed to hold again, and whose memory she cherished dearly. Laura was a loving and dedicated mother to her daughter, Mary, and special son-in-law, Paul Levesley.
Laura loved her siblings very much and is predeceased by Conceicao (Luis Raposo), Manuel (Odilia Silveira), Rosa (Jose Pereira), Luciano (Adriana Silveira), Norberto (Lurdes Silveira), Survived by her sister Senhorina (Joao Martins) and brother Guilherme (Isabel Silveira).
Predeceased by brothers and sisters in law Manuel (Ermelinda DaSilva) Conceicao (Guilherme Moniz) and Ludevina (Jose Silva).
She was deeply loved by many nieces, nephews, friends, and Godchildren in Canada and Portugal.
Laura had a kind spirit, a warm heart, and a wonderful sense of humour that brightened the lives of those around her. She found great joy in tending to her beautiful garden, a place where she spent countless peaceful hours. Every Easter, she made her famous massa bread, and everyone eagerly looked forward to receiving it. Along with her culinary skills, she was an expert at crocheting, creating many beautiful items, but it was her baby blankets and booties that became cherished gifts, with each family member receiving their own, made with love and care.
She was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Church, where she volunteered for many years and actively participated in various church groups, she found great joy as the Catechism teacher for the church and was also the leader of Grupo Sao Lucas. With a heart full of faith, she shared the message of Jesus wherever she went, spreading love and kindness to all she encountered.
The family wishes to extend their sincere and profound gratitude to the exceptional doctors, nurses, and caregivers at Emmanuel House and to Dr. Clark and his staff especially Cindy, your unwavering kindness, empathy, and extraordinary care have touched our hearts in ways words can hardly express. We are deeply thankful for the love and support you’ve given, offering comfort and peace during a time that has been both challenging and emotional. Your presence has truly been a blessing.
A sincere and heartfelt thank you to Friscolanti Funeral Home and all our family and friends who surrounded us with love, comfort, and support during this challenging time. Your kindness, encouragement, and thoughtfulness have been a source of strength and solace, and we are deeply grateful for the warmth and care you’ve shown us. Your presence has been a true blessing.
