Lance’s Obituary
Lance Darcie Gummesen, long-time resident of Manning, passed away on January 29, 2025 at the age of 50 years. Lance was born in Peace River on February 15, 1974. Lance called Manning and area his home for his entire life. He attended school at Manning Elementary School and later Paul Rowe High School.
After graduating, he immediately went to work as a service truck operator for Krantz Contracting and later as a gas plant operator for Chevron Chinchaga. In 1997, he began working for Enerflex as an field service technician and obtained his journeyman auto service technician diploma and Red Seal certification from Fairview College in 2001. In 2007, Lance started his own company, Edge Compression Services Ltd., where he worked as an independent contractor before joining CNRL, his current employer.
In February 2000, he lost his father, Earl, after a long battle with cancer. That same year, he and his fiancée, Julie, bought their home where they have lived ever since. They eloped to Cuba in February 2001 and, in this home filled with laughter and love, they raised their two daughters, Skylar and Sienna.
Lance lived for his family and friends. He could be counted on for anything. At home, he considered every responsibility his: childcare, laundry, housecleaning, yardwork, and servicing everyone’s vehicles. At work, he was a mentor to young mechanics and operators, and he guided with patience and a kind heart.
Lance also had a quick, witty sense of humour. It gave him complete joy to make others laugh and to laugh with them. This was perhaps his greatest gift. Lance had a profound impact on the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Lance is survived by his wife, Julie; daughters, Skylar and Sienna; mother, Jean; brothers, Mark (Wendy), Brian (Bertha), and Kevin and many extended family members.
Lance’s celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Rosary School in Manning, Alberta at 1 pm. Fellowship to follow.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Chapel of Memories Funeral Homes.
