It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Laila Luostarinen on January 13, 2025, with her beloved cat, Nukki, sitting on her lap.
Laila was born June 16, 1927 in Tornio, Finland and immigrated to Canada with her husband and daughter in 1953. After the birth of two more children and numerous moves in Western Canada and Germany, the family settled in Calgary in 1968. Laila worked for well over 20 years, until her retirement, at George Boyack Nursing Home.
Laila was an avid gardener and passionate animal lover. She was a long-standing member of the Central Seventh Day Adventist Church and steadfast in her faith.
Laila was predeceased by her husband, Aarne; Granddaughter, Michelle; Great grandson, Caleb and recently her Daughter, Varpu. She will be missed by her Daughter Pirjo (Dale) Lorenson; Son John (Lorraine) Luostarinen; Grandchildren Jennifer (Michael) Truong, Brian (Adrianna) Ferguson, DeAnna (Ian) Mayhood, Michael Lorenson, Liisa (Kyle) Honish, Leah and David Weisgarber and Great Grandchildren Brielle, Brandon, Lucas, MaryAnn, Silas, Sarai, Amanda, Ava, Darynn, Izack, Patrick, Elizabeth, and Andrew.
We wish to thank the staff at Whitehorn Retirement Village for the excellent care provided to our mother for the last four years.
A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, February 9, 2025 at 2PM at Calgary Central Seventh Day Adventist Church (1920 13th Ave NW, Calgary).
