Kimberly Lynne Brett-Thibodeau (née Mercer)
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kimberly Lynne Brett-Thibodeau on May 14, 2025 at the age of 56. Kim passed peacefully in the early morning hours, surrounded by her loving family. She faced an aggressive illness with extraordinary courage, dignity, and unwavering strength.
Kim was the cherished wife and partner of Jay-Cee Thibodeau for 23 years, and the devoted mother of Freeman Thibodeau (Aaron McLennan-Hertrich). Her love for her family was boundless and constant. She is predeceased by her mother Gail Johnson, and father Rick Mercer. Kim is survived by her brothers Dwayne and Jamie, and by her sister Lisa.
She was an accomplished artist and educator who touched many lives through her work at the MacLaren Art Centre and during her travels across Canada. Kim’s artistic practice, centred on painting and printmaking, explored themes of self-care, utility, and expression. She had a remarkable ability to help others discover their creative spirit, guiding them to find beauty and meaning through art.
During the past year, Kim continued to create, to teach, and to love, and never allowed her cancer diagnosis to define her. She remained focused on what mattered most to her, which was her art, her career, and her family.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the teams at Southlake Regional Cancer Centre, Saint Elizabeth Health Care, and the MacLaren Art Centre.
Funeral Service will be held at Drury Funeral Centre, 519 Victoria St. E., Alliston on Friday, May 23rd with Visitation from 1 p.m. until time of Service at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kim’s memory may be made to the MacLaren Art Centre or Edwards Animal Sanctuary.
