Kevin Wadelius Obituary
Kevin Sten Wadelius (1949-2025) passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2025 at his home in Clearwater Lake Provincial Park at the age of 76.
Kevin was a true northern boy at heart, spent his entire life in Manitoba and work took him on adventures across the north. In his early years he could be found pumping gas at Hill’s Corner Store. At the young age of 17 he worked a summer in the Freight sheds in Churchill along with his brother Chris and his good friend Rick Z. He also worked briefly on the Extra-gang for CN. In 1970 he hired on permanently with CN as a Carman and was stationed in Flin Flon where he and Angela lived for several years. Not a minder of all rules (or most), he welcomed their first child in 1976, married his beloved wife in 1979, then welcomed their second child in 1980.
When CN operations ended in Flin Flon, the family moved to The Pas in 1981 and then to Campbell Lake in 1989. Kevin continued with the railroad, dedicating more than 34 years to CN and several more with HBR up to retirement.
Kevin loved spending time with his friends and having a good time. Cribbage was tradition amongst the family spanning more than 50 years of play and included all generations. As a 51-year member of the Legion, over the years he could often be found enjoying the patrons at the ‘table of knowledge’. He was well known for his generosity, kindness, and willingness to always lend a helping hand. He vigorously supported his family’s passions and hobbies, many that weren’t exactly his. He spent a lifetime, readying gardens, restoring buildings, building fences for their horses – so many fences. He loved feeding the birds, pop in visits from good friends, and relaxing with his new adopted dog Max and cat Diego. Over the past 36 years he worked hard creating a park like paradise with his wife on their property at Campbell Lake. His ‘man cave’, easily the envy of many, was a place to enjoy a beer, find a tool, or fix a thing. Kevin was great handyman, a literal ‘Jack of all Trades’. Thus, leading him to saving numerous odds and sods ‘just in case’. Despite his many talents and incredible work ethic, Kevin remained a humble man. Never prideful for his accomplishments, and always pushing himself to do more.
Kevin is survived by his wife of 46 years, Angela; his children Deneene (Chris) and Garrett (Anthony); his grandchildren, Brett and Kaitlyn; his brother Chris (Marie); his niece Darcie, and nephew Glenn. Among the many other extended family members who loved Kevin and were loved by him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sten and Beryle Wadelius.
A private celebration of life will held at a later date.
It is with very heavy hearts we say ‘see you later’ Kevin – our cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 19, The Pas and Area Animal Shelter, or a charity of choice would be appreciated by the family.
