Kent Guindon, a beloved brother and cherished friend, passed away on January 2, 2025 in Sudbury, Ontario. Born on August 22, 1962 in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Kent grew up in a Canadian Air Force family, living in five provinces with his parents and sisters. He went on to pursue his education in North Bay and eventually settled in Sudbury where he lived a life rich with friendship, kindness and creativity that touched the hearts of many.
As a longtime news director and producer, Kent was known for his unwavering commitment to local broadcast journalism, with a career spanning over 40 years with CTV stations in North Bay and Sudbury. Throughout his decades in the business, Kent was a pillar in the newsroom, contributing invaluable skills and expertise while being the calm and cool in an often chaotic environment. He was a mentor to many and lifelong friend to the countless colleagues who passed through the doors. Kent’s dedication to his craft shined especially bright during his difficult battle with cancer, where he continued to work, doing what he loved most, producing and sharing the stories of Northern Ontario.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Kent had a love for photography, music and movies. KISS was among his favourite bands and he could often be found at the movie theatre taking in the latest releases or venturing out on a photoshoot- with his camera always at the ready. He was also a proud sports fan of the San Diego Padres, Liverpool FC and the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Kent is survived by his loving sisters Nycole Kindree of Edmonton, Alberta and Denyse Conroy of St. Albert, Alberta who will forever carry forward his spirit of kindness and generosity within them. He also leaves behind his beloved cat Fergus. Kent is predeceased by his mother Marion Guindon and father Keir Guindon.
Kent treasured time spent with his many friends, from Canada to Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day was by far his favourite day of the year to get together and celebrate with them. His sisters are most grateful to his dear friends who became family including Steve, Bill, Lillian, and Marina—each holding special places in Kent’s heart.
In keeping with Kent’s wishes no funeral service will be held; instead, there will be a celebration of life organized at a later date. For now, we ask that you have a pint of Guinness in his honour.
In appreciation for their kind and compassionate care during Kent’s journey, donations to either Health Sciences North Foundation or Northern Cancer Foundation are also welcome.
