Kenneth Owen “Ken” Faulkner – 75, Hart Lake and
Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family,
on Tuesday, January 7, 2025 at Colchester East Hants Health Centre,
Truro. Born in Truro, he was a son of the late Vincent and Ruthene
(Rushton) Faulkner.
Ken began his working career with W.E. Faulkner Construction
operating a drag line and heavy equipment. He then entered
the insurance industry where he remained for over 55 years. Starting
off as an Underwriter with Norwich Union, then as a Broker with CD
Armstrong Limited, MCTI and BrokerLink where he was currently
employed.
In his younger years, Ken was very active in sports playing
soccer, basketball and baseball. His love of sports continued with his
children by coaching Minor Hockey and Little League Baseball while he
played Men’s Slo Pitch and enjoyed curling. He was also the ice
manager for Truro and Area Minor Hockey, a Steward and Elder at St.
Andrew’s United Church, Truro, and had served as President and Member
of Fundy Trail Snowmobile Club and Hart Lake Cottage Owner’s
Association.
Above all, Ken loved his family and the time he was able to
spend with them. They enjoyed many trips south and enjoyable
gatherings at Hart Lake. Ken’s favorite sayings were “nothing
like family and friends” and “nothing like sun and
sand”. He loved all.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra
(Marsh); children, Tony (Tanya) Faulkner, Truro; Leanne (William)
Smith, Devon, Alberta; grandchildren, Danica (Conner), Bailey, Halle,
Savanah, Ava, Caleb; brothers, Chesley (Nora) Faulkner, Bass River;
Arthur Faulkner, Truro; Rod (Mi) Faulkner, Bass River; sister-in law
Kathy Faulkner, Bass River, several nieces and nephews. Along with his
parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Marlene; brothers, Donald,
Bobby.
The family would like to thank Dr. Cortney Smith, Mary
Pettipas, Dr. Henderson, the staff at the Palliative Care Unit and VON
for the care and support provided to Ken and the family. It was
greatly appreciated.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall – Varner
Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ken’s family will receive
family and friends to share memories of this amazing man from 4-6
p.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2025. If so desired, donations in Ken’s
memory to Palliative Care Unit (CEHHC), Colchester East Hants Hospice
