Kenneth Matthews – 77, Truro, passed away on
Friday, January 24, 2025, at East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash. Born in
Inverness, Cape Breton, he was a son of the late Melvin and Annie
Margaret (Lannigan) Matthews.
In his early life he worked as a miner in Ontario, and later
as a licensed mechanic at the mines. In Nova Scotia he worked as a
mechanic and as a truck driver in various places. He enjoyed playing
crib, fishing, hunting, playing guitar, splitting and piling wood, and
working in the yard. Though a quiet man, Ken enjoyed coffee and
conversation with friends.
Ken is survived by his long-time partner, Grace Hansen, East
Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash; son, Andrew (Christine), Mattawa, Ontario;
grandchildren, Kalin and Odin, Mattawa, Ontario; sister, Eleanor
Thomas, North Sydney; brothers, Gordon, River Denys; Donald, Calgary,
Alberta. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his brother,
Thomas.
The family would like to express heartfelt thanks for the
kindness and care provided by the staff of Colchester East Hants
Health Centre, Truro, Lillian Fraser Memorial Hospital, Tatamagouche
and East Cumberland Lodge, Pugwash.
Arrangements for cremation have been entrusted to Mattatall
– Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro. Honouring
Ken’s wishes, there will be no visitation or service by
request. If so desired, donations in Ken’s memory to a
charity of choice are welcomed.
