Obituary of Keith Woods
With profound sadness we announce that Keith Woods (Germain) passed away on his 66th birthday on January 11, 2025, after a very lengthy and hard-fought battle with cancer. He always had a positive attitude no matter what obstacles were thrown at him.
He is missed by his sisters, Sharon Gerger and Kim Tabor and her husband Bob, and by his mother-in-law Sheila Breland and his sister-in-law Deidre Breland and brother-in-law Blair Breland and by his nieces and nephews, Shawn Gerger and his wife Erin, Kevin Gerger and his wife Ashley, Spencer Tabor, Peyton Tabor, Sydney Tabor and Caden Tabor and Kyle Breland and his wife Robie.
Keith was predeceased by his wife, Desiree Breland, his parents, Chick and Della Woods, his father-in-law, George Breland and his brother-in-law, Jim Gerger.
Keith was born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, then moved to Sudbury before the family settled in Kitchener. He joined the army right out of school where he worked as a mechanic until he retired.
He travelled to many places around the world during his time in service. Among his favourites was Lahr, Germany where he spent four years and was able to travel to many counties in Europe. He particularly loved Switzerland. He also enjoyed six chilly weeks in Alert, Nunavut.
After he retired, he enjoyed working around his property and fixing cars and small motors. He also enjoyed drawing and his family is proud to be able to display some of his work in their homes. He loved photography and for years, he and his sisters completed weekly challenges. As the years passed he got more into fitness and worked hard to make his sisters get off their butts and join a gym. He failed at that. However, when covid hit he convinced them to do fitness classes on-line with him.
The family wishes the following people to know how deeply they appreciate their kindness over the years. Keith adored you both. Melissa Whyte, a dear friend and neighbour who was always there for Keith, and Dr. Meera Chopra, his longtime family physician who treated him like family.
At Keith’s request there will be no funeral. The family will have a small graveside service where he will be laid to rest with his wife. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Keith’s memory.
