It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Keith, lovingly and accurately nicknamed “Stretch”, at the Maison McCulloch Hospice in Sudbury, on Sunday, January 26, 2025 at the age of 75 years.
Son of the late Clarence and late Clara (née Lindstrom) Mulligan. Loving husband and best friend of Faye Pilling. Cherished father of Ashley Pilling (Carter Morin). He will be sadly missed by his fur baby Oscar, cousin Pat, sister-in-law Iris and many friends and relatives. He will be reunited with his first wife Lynda Mulligan (née Letourneau), their dogs Bacardi and Lucky and many special friends including Jack, Wally, Bob, John and Vince.
Born in Roser, Manitoba Keith moved to Thompson at 18 and worked at Inco for 37 years, spending the majority of his time in the smelter as a crane operator and in the control room. The highlight of his career was the 5 years he spent in Sorowako, Indonesia where he was part of the start up team and trained staff on crane and loader operations.
Keith was an avid golfer, curler and member of the Lockerby Legion where he loved to socialize and laugh. He had a great (albeit, often crude and sarcastic) sense of humour. He cared for his loved ones and friends deeply and said his door was “always open” even in his final weeks. He took great pride in his yard and was always coming up with new gardening and landscaping projects for him and Faye to tackle and then enjoy from their deck. He loved music, animals and travelling with his wife, daughter and friends. He’d incorporate golf into all his travels, having played on courses around the world.
Above all, Keith’s greatest joy in life was being a father to his daughter Ashley. He’d said that Lynda was the first love of his life, Faye was his second and Ashley was his third. People always said they’d never seen him happier than when he was walking through the mall, hand in hand with Ashley, after her morning kindergarten class.
The family extends their sincerest thanks to Dr. Malone and Dr. Walton for their excellent care. As well as the many nurses and PSWs at Maison McCulloch Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Keith in his final months. There are too many wonderful staff to name each individually, but many will always hold a special place in our family’s hearts for the comfort they gave to Keith, as well as Faye, Ashley and of course Oscar. Being able to spend these days all together was the greatest gift of all during a heartbreaking time.
In keeping with his wishes there will be no visitation or service. Donations in Keith’s memory can be made to the Maison McCulloch Hospice.
