Kathryn Marsh Obituary
It is with tremendous sadness that we announce the passing, after a very brief illness, of Kathryn Marsh (nee Smart, Burry) aged 82 years, our cherished mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt and friend.
Predeceased by her parents: Patrick and Maggie Smart; her husband, Clarence Marsh (2023); brothers: Lawrence, John and Robert Smart; sister Donna Smart, nephew Colin Smart, and grandson Joel Ross.
Left with endless memories and love, her children:
Karon (Blair) Pearcey, Lisa (Brian) Marshall, Stephen (Karen) Burry  and Stephanie (Jeff) Antoline; Kimberley (Craig) Scott, David (Teresa) Marsh and Lynda (Alice) Stafford-Marsh; her adored grandchildren: Samantha (Daniel) Evans, Matthew (Leah) Roberts, Justin and Kayla (Nick) Pearcey, Braden (Brooke) and Nathan Marshall, Taylor Burry, Mykaela Chafe, Mackenzie and Benjamin Burry Chafe, Sofia, Jack and Enzo Antoline, Christopher (Cindy) Ross, and Robhyn Scott; great grandchildren: Charlee Rose, Hank, Louie, Kaiden, William, Waylon, Logan, Austin, and Liam; her sister Theresa Smart; sisters-in-law: Bernadette and Regina Smart; nephews: Keith and Noel Smart; niece Kerry Nugent; her friends from Pleasant View Towers and South View Manor, especially Francis, Jan, Margie and Sandra: your friendship meant everything to Kathryn. Also leaving to mourn a large extended family, including the Marsh families and Burry families, as well as her circle of friends.
Kathryn began her teaching career at the age of 19 at Holy Heart of Mary in St. John’s. Kathryn’s favorite teaching years were spent at Labrador City Collegiate where the students nicknamed her “Mom”. She also taught at St Patrick’s, JR Smallwood Collegiate, and as a substitute teacher. Kathryn loved mentoring, educating and guiding her students and was well respected and adored by all. She always had time, love and a listening ear for every one of them. Kathryn enjoyed teaching for 25 fulfilling years.
After her teaching career, Kathryn was not finished helping others. At the age of 44 years, she returned to school and became a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She worked at the Miller Centre with care, compassion, a song, and a chuckle for all of the patients under her care.
Upon finally retiring, she moved to Hickman’s Harbour where she developed many friendships. Together with her husband Clarence, they spent endless time enjoying the quiet life with family, friends and nature.
Kathryn loved to knit, do crafts, listen to VOWR and watch the daily mass (especially mass from Ireland). Kathryn’s true love was her family. She loved them endlessly, was kind, fun, a great listener and was so proud of each and everyone.
Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the medical staff of the Health Science Centre, especially the staff of the Dialysis Unit, for your kindness and compassion shown to Kathryn.
