Kathryn Benedict Square (King), 86 of Saint Regis, unexpectedly passed away after a brief sickness on Friday January 10th 2025 at the University of Vermont Medical Center surrounded by loved ones.
Kathryn was born in St Regis, Quebec on October 21st, 1938, the daughter of the late Joseph and Louise (Garrow) Benedict.
On November 17th, 1956, she married Stanley Square (King) at the St Regis Catholic Church. He predeceased her on March 10th 1997. Kathryn and her husband worked as custodians at the Saint Regis Village school. Along with that, they coached their grandchildren’s lacrosse team and would pick up all the children to make sure they had equipment for the game. She was a lifelong communicant of the St Regis Catholic Church. She cherished her time by spending it with her large family and her pets. She loved to go on pontoon rides to her cabin on yellow island, watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren sports games and sitting on her porch in the mornings drinking her coffee with her handymen angus and Pete. She loved going to flea markets, garage sales and traveling.
Kathryn is survived by her children Bonnie Square (Chuck Brown), Debbie Smoke (Donnie), Randy Square (Carrie Lazore), Steph Square (Michelle Davidson), her chosen children Stacey, Tyson, Tasha, Tyren, Tristen, Tylee; chosen family, Leah and Gina. 22 grandchildren, 65 great grandchildren and 11 great great-grandchildren. A dear sister to Lucy (Gordon-predeceased) Beaubian, Joan (Joe) Phillips, and John and Joseph Benedict; sister in-law Leona Benedict, Nancy King and Veronica Thompson; Brother in-law Bobbi Lazore and Pat King and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Her beloved pets Tuffy, Sage, Whitey, Oliver, and Menace. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her loving husband Stanley Square, Her 3 children, Ronnie, Richard “Ricky” and Penny Square. Her grandchildren, Baby Ron Square, Sheyenne Smoke, Trent Square, and Ryder Square. Her siblings Ann, Butch, Frankie (Lilian), Micheal “Mike”, Elizabeth” Betty”, Janet (Tiny), Roberta and Nancy (Fishworm). Her dogs Fluffy, Rocky, Murphy, Tommy, and Pepsi.
Kathryn’s family will welcome loved ones and friends at 34 Akwesasne Street, St. Regis, Quebec from 4 p.m. on Thursday, January 16th, 2025.
Mass of Christian burial will take place on Saturday, January 18th, 2025 in St. Regis Mission Catholic Church at 11 a.m. Followed by burial in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
