Obituary of Kathleen Ann McAlduff
Kathleen “Kay” McAlduff passed away peacefully February 25, 2025, after an extended stay in St. Martha’s Regional Hospital, Antigonish. Born Nov. 2,1944, Kay was the eldest daughter of the late Sarto and Gwen Bradshaw. She is survived by the love of her life, her husband of 51 years and best friend, Ed, and by her adult children, David, Michael and Ann. Kay was extremely proud of her children and their accomplishments. She is also survived by a brother Michael (Maureen) and sisters Mary (Ed Gesner), Halifax, and Gwen (Danny MacIsaac), sister-in-law Barb Bradshaw and aunt Virginia Deal, SC, Halifax along with numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Pauline and a brother Danny.
Kay earned a Diploma in Secretarial Arts from Mount Saint Bernard and BA ’65 and BEd ’67 from StFX. She received a Master of Arts in Business Education from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire in 1973. She taught typing and shorthand for 2 years at St. Francis High School in Calgary. In 1970, she returned to Antigonish to teach in the Secretarial Arts Department at StFX. She taught there until the program closed in 1992. Upon leaving StFX she taught in adult re-training at Nova Scotia Community College-Stellarton.
Upon retiring, she became heavily involved in the work of St. Martha’s Hospital Auxiliary holding several positions over the years including President, Vice-President, and Secretary. She volunteered at many of the fundraising events carried out by the Auxiliary. She served as a member of the Board of Governors of St. Martha’s Regional Hospital; a member of the Mission Assurance advisory council and the ethics committee.
She lived for her weekly bridge games with the girls, where just as much catching up on world news occurred as card play. She loved planning her garden layout every year, and she enjoyed spending time with her golf crew at Fiddler’s Green.
The family is deeply grateful for the care that was given to Kay by all of the staff at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital and to Dr. John Chiasson for his many years of devoted service as her family physician. They are also grateful for the care she received from Antigonish Home Care.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2:00-5:00 pm on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025 in MacIsaac Funeral Home, 61 Pleasant Street, Antigonish. Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am in St. Ninian’s Cathedral on Monday, March 3rd, 2025, with Reverend Danny MacLennan presiding. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
