It is with profound sadness that we
announce the passing of our Mom, Karen
Yvonne Atkinson, 62, at All Saints Hospital,
on February 22, 2025, surrounded by her daughters, after a
brief but hard fought battle with cancer.
Born in Edmonton, AB, Karen was the
daughter of the late Vaughn Atkinson and Roberta (Ferdinand)
Stewart.
Karen spent many years as the Manager of
The Great Canadian Dollar Store. She loved her employees and
her boss Kevin Kane. Karen had worked for Kevin in various stores
and various positions throughout the
years.
Karen loved her family fiercely.
Everything she did was for them. She enjoyed
knitting, concerts, going to Five Islands with her family, and watching
her grandchildren play sports.
She was also a founding member of Save
Our Families because she believed that everyone deserved a
second chance and everyone deserved help. She was the type to give you
her last dollar if you needed it, and did many times. Mom
deserved way more than life gave her.
Karen will be dearly missed by her
soulmate, Lawrence Pye, children Marianne (Mike) Matheson,
Amanda Calder, Micheal Ryan, stepdaughter Katareena (Corey) Kormish
and cat Boots. Karen will also be missed by her 13
grandchildren- Xander, Josh (Alexis), Griffin, Koen, Ari,
Damian, Vera, Claire, Benjamin, Grayson, Gage, Rilah and Farrah, and
one great granddaughter Delilah; Sister Ellen Stevens,
Brother Paul (Tanya) Atkinson and partner in crime, Bertha
Harrison, as well as several nieces and
nephews.
Arrangements are under the care and
direction of the A. H. Brown Funeral
Home, 5 McFarlane Street, Springhill, (902 597 2361).
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no visitation/funeral. There
will be a celebration of life on March 1st, 2025, 2 pm- 5 pm in the
CIBC Room at the Dr. Carson & Marion Murray Community Centre,
Springhill.
Donations in memory of Karen can be made
to Save Our Families Association, Canadian Cancer Society or
a charity of your choice.
We want to thank the 2nd floor nurses at
ASH for the love and care you not only gave mom, but you gave
all of us.
Sharing of memories and condolences may
be sent to Karen’s family by visiting the online memorial at
www.brownsfuneralhome.com or through the A.H. Brown Funeral Home Facebook
Page.

If there ever comes a day when we
can’t be together, keep me in your heart, I’ll
stay there forever.
