June Laurene Dix (1935-2025) – June Laurene Dix passed away peacefully on March 5, 2025 at East Cumberland Lodge, age 90. Born in Springhill on January 9th 1935, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Brown) Dykens. June was preceded in death by the love of her life, Edward McCallum. June is survived by her brother Art (Jean) Dykens; sons, Bill and Rick; daughter, Ann; granddaughters, Brandice (Jamie) Murphy, Tara Lee Dix (Jesse Urquhart) and great-grandchildren, Duncan Oliver and Aylee Ann Katherine Murphy, along with nieces and nephews. June enjoyed baking, sharing her cookies, grumbling “there is nothing on this TV”, Nan always spoke her mind. June loved knitting “Newfie Mitts”, and fishing at the camp. Being an “icon” of Heather Beach, she was a pro beach glass spotter, she spent hours reading, walking, rocking in her chair and enjoyed a “good chat” on the cottage deck. In later years, June enjoyed every minute of watching her great-grandchildren grow and play hockey, showing off their pictures to anyone that walked by. She was an active member of the Springhill Salvation Army, volunteering at the food bank and singing. In keeping with her wishes, there will be visitation from 1-2 pm, followed by funeral service at 2 pm, both at Salvation Army, Springhill. Despite teasing Nan for years she would be buried in a cool whip container, we will properly lay her to rest at a later date over Monument Hill at Hillside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, June has requested a donation to the Springhill Salvation Army or a charity of your choice.
