Obituary of Judy Huggard
It is with deep sadness that the family of Judy Huggard announces her passing at the age of 81 at the Saint John Regional Hospital on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, following a period of failing health.
Judy was predeceased by her husband Paul, and leaves behind her cherished son Bob (Pamela), much loved grandchildren, Kayla and Ben, her remaining sibling, brother Ralph (Verna-deceased), brothers-in-law David Huggard (Barb) and Peter Huggard (Linda), along with many nieces and nephews and friends.
Judy was also predeceased by her parents, Willard and Helen Norrad; infant sister Doris; sisters Teete Scott (Mitchell), Timmie Price (Howard); brothers Dick Norrad (Corinne), Doug Norrad (Norrie), Dode Norrad (Betty), Murray Norrad (Madge), Red Norrad (Verna, Ila), and Harold Norrad (Helen); and doggie babies Bandit and K.B.
She was the ‘littlest Norrad’ and the youngest child in a large, close-knit, musical family in Sus, N.B. The Norrad home was the centre of many celebrations over the years, and some of Judy’s favourite memories were of her family singing in harmony to a myriad of instruments.
After her marriage to Paul, Judy moved to Saint John, where they raised Bob, and where Judy worked for many years at the Saint John Regional Hospital, in the administration of operating room bookings (in the days before computers!). Judy retired from the hospital just in time to be the proudest grandmother ever to Kayla and Ben; they adored their Nana, and loved hearing her stories, especially when they were young and the stories were ‘PG” rated!
Judy loved music and dancing, and as a child enjoyed skating, cheerleading at Sus High School, and playing the piano. She was a young parent and often said her husband was more like a brother to their son Bob. She and Paul enjoyed travelling in their younger years, and often socialized with family and friends through curling and cards and maybe a party or two. With her large family and broad network of friends, Judy had many stories to tell, and no one could tell a story as well as Judy! She wore her heart on her sleeve and you would know how fiercely you were loved.
Judy was a talented knitter and in her later years knit many items for the IWK NICU, and for those facing hardship. She was an equally gifted painter and we are thankful to have her paintings in memory.
Following Paul’s death, after 49 years of marriage, Judy relied upon Bob, who was her rock: she was so very proud of him, and of her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the company and support of her friends at the seniors’ complex where she lived in her later years.
Through her health issues, Judy appreciated her many friends/helpers, like Harold, Shelley, Brenda, Pam’s family, and many others too numerous to mention. As a patient at the Saint John Regional Hospital, Judy and her family were grateful for the caring staff in pediatrics (where she stayed at times as their ‘biggest baby’ – Judy’s words) and more recently in palliative care, where Judy received attentive care … which she exchanged for a chocolate and a joke or two! We extend our heartfelt thanks to all the staff, and to Dr. Mackin and Dr. Hemmings, whose compassionate care brought much comfort to Judy and her family.
A celebration of life will be held in late summer. If you are considering a donation in Judy’s memory, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
