JUDITH REBECCA LOCKER
Judith Rebecca (Kitchen) Locker passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving children, on Friday March 7, 2025 at the age of 81, at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital. Judy was the beloved wife and soul mate of the late R. Lee Locker for 43 years. She was the cherished Mom of Lee Locker of Victoria, British Columbia and Alison Locker and Paul Haley of Springford. Judy’s grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was the dear Nana to Aiden Haley and Avery Haley of Springford.
Judy was born December 23, 1943 in Fredericton, New Brunswick to her parents Elsie (McMurtrie) (Kitchen) Baldwin and Howard Kitchen, and was the step-daughter of Jack Baldwin. At a young age Judy and her mother journeyed west from New Brunswick, making many stops along the way. Once they reached the Eden and Straffordville area she put down deep and enduring roots, and became a lifelong resident of the area.
Judy was a dear sister-in-law to Barbara Locker and the late Paul Locker (1996) of Straffordville, Jean Currier of Tillsonburg, and Joan Locker and the late Derek Norman (2024) of Victoria, British Columbia. She was also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom were special to her.
Judy was predeceased by her husband R. Lee Locker (2010), her mother Elsie Baldwin (1987), her ‘other mother’ Ruth Locker (2002), step-father Jack Baldwin (2000), father-in-law Ken Locker (1972), father Howard Kitchen (1969), and infant sister Elsie Althea Kitchen (1943).
Judy was inspired by the world around her, seeing and commenting on the beauty in the fields, woods and birds around her. She had an affinity for animals, and cared for many different ones in her lifetime, from horses to goats and cats. Having a simple coffee with friends and family, sharing stories and wisdom always made her heart happy. She also loved and valued her quiet times, often spent reading, doing puzzles or simply sitting on her deck, enjoying the vista.
Judy had a generous spirit, and helping others was a deeply held value and purpose throughout her life. She was a proud graduate of Brantford General Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. She helped countless people first as a hospital and long-term care home nurse, and then as a home visiting nurse with Victorian Order of Nurses (VON) in Elgin and Haldimand-Norfolk, for more than 20 years. In retirement, Judy and her beloved pug Phoebe joined the St. John’s Ambulance Therapy Dog program, visiting seniors in long-term care and students in local schools. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Special thanks to the staff and residents of Tillsonburg Retirement Residence. While Judy’s time with you was short, she loved every minute of her time there and was so grateful for the happiness, peace, and comfort she enjoyed in her last weeks. Thanks, too, to the nurses and doctors at Tillsonburg District Memorial Hospital for your compassionate and kind care.
The family will host a visitation on Wednesday March 12, 2025 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Ostrander’s Funeral Home, 43 Bidwell Street, Tillsonburg, ON N4G 3T6 (519) 842-5221. Cremation will follow the service with a family burial to be held at a later date at Smuck Cemetery, Straffordville.
