Judy Boutilier Obituary
We, the family, are heartbroken to announce the passing of Judy (Taylor) Boutilier, of Sydney Mines on April 25, 2025, at the age of 77. Judy was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Judy was predeceased by her loving parents, Gordon and Roberta (Stubbert) Taylor, and her beloved sister Sheila Jenkins.
Judy is survived and will be forever missed by her devoted husband of over 54 years, Lloyd; her adoring children Michael (Lori) and Alison (Troy) Penney; and her loving grandsons Lucas (Mia) and Liam Penney, who were indeed Nana’s pride and joy. Judy was also blessed to have a large extended family on the Boutilier side, as well as a circle of very close friends who will miss her dearly.
Judy grew up in North Sydney and based on all of her stories, had a wonderful childhood. Immediately after graduating high school, Judy began working for NS Department of Highways, a job she loved and still talked about many years later. But, after the birth of her two children, she and Lloyd made the decision for her to stay at home and take care of the home and family, and what a blessing it was! Our home was happy and full of love and laughter. We will carry these memories forever.
Over the years, Judy and Lloyd had many pets (all of them strays), and became animal advocates in their own right. Judy felt strongly that all animals deserved to be loved and fed, and never hesitated to help any animal in need. Judy and Lloyd played a huge role in reducing the feral cat population, by trapping and spaying/neutering many feral cats over the years. This work was a labor of love for Judy, and her love for animals is her legacy that will live on through her children and grandchildren. Left behind to mourn her passing are Baby, Buddy, and Pretty.
We, the family, wish to express our most sincere thanks to all of the medical staff who have assisted Judy along her journey. There are too many to mention by name, but the kindness and compassion shown to Judy will never be forgotten. This includes staff at the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, the QEII Cancer Centre, and the Northside General Hospital.
Judy faced her illness with remarkable strength, grace, and unwavering composure — a testament to her incredible spirit. She did not lose the battle; she won! She will be forever loved and missed.
There will be no visitation at Judy’s request. Cremation has taken place under the care of JM Jobes Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Judy’s name would be appreciated to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund or to the Feral and Abandoned Cat Society.
“Gone from our sight, but forever in our hearts.”
