Obituary of Judith Ann Fortune Myer
Judith Fortune Myer (born October 27, 1960): 64 of Kentville, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025 at Valley Regional Hospital with her sister, Mary, and her niece, Shauna, by her side. Judy’s story began in New Waterford, where she was born the daughter of Mary Maxine (McKinnon) and Joseph Myles Fortune. Judy attended Breton Education Center, graduating in 1979, before following her passion for media by studying Radio and Television at Kingstec College in Annapolis Valley in 1980. In 1990, she returned to Cape Breton to care for her ailing mother. In 1996, she moved to Halifax, where she worked at Convergys call center before transitioning to Eastlink.
In recent years, Judy moved back to Kentville to be closer to her sisters and brother. What a gift it was for the siblings to have each other during this special time. Judy cherished every moment spent with her siblings, especially the countless road trips with no set destination-just laughter, adventure, and time well spent together. More than just siblings, they were the best of friends, creating memories that will be treasured forever. There were many cups of coffee, glasses of wine and plenty of laughs. With four Cape Bretoners in the mix, it was often hard to get a word in! Their love for one another was fierce, and they were never short of funny stories and playful teasing.
We know you’re raising a glass of Jacob’s Creek Moscato, watching the sunset from a deck chair, with your heart forever in Cape Breton, listening to your favourite Matt Minglewood song. Words can’t express how much we’re going to miss you.
In addition to her parents, Judy was predeceased by her sister, C. Marie Wilson of Kentville; her brother, Adrian Fortune of New Minas; and her nephews, along with numerous aunts and uncles. She mourned the passing of her siblings terribly, and their loss weighed heavily on her heart. Now, she is reunited with her beloved family, finding peace in their embrace once more.
She cherished her nieces and nephews, as if they were her own, filling their lives with love, guidance, and unwavering support. With a sharp sense of humour and a love for sharing her opinions, she brought laughter and spirited conversation wherever she went. Whenever her family told her they loved her, she always responded with a heartfelt, “I love you more.” She had a passion for shoes and a deep love for the colour red-two things that reflected her vibrant personality.
She will be dearly missed by her sister Mary (Fortune) Misner. Nephew Douglas (Amy) Misner, Niece Shauna (Andy) Kerr, Niece Cynthia (Ian) Duey, Niece Kimberley (Mark) Fisher, Nephew Chris (Beth) Wilson and many beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom she cherished deeply.
If you knew Judy, then you know she had a deep and enduring love for cats, finding comfort and joy in their companionship throughout her life. Among them, Abbie held a particularly special place in her heart, bringing her endless warmth and cherished memories.
Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Judy’s life will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Lung Association, Canadian Diabetic Association and SPCA. Arrangements have been entrusted to Serenity Funeral Home, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr., Coldbrook, NS, B4R 1 B9 (902-679-2822).
