Judith Ann Brausse Obituary
It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Judith Ann Brausse (Gillanders) on January 17th, 2025, after a short and tough battle with cancer. Through it all, she stayed positive and full of life.
Judy was the first born to John and Vera Gillanders on May 17, 1945, at the High River hospital. She grew up on the farm north of Blackie at Gladys Ridge. Being the oldest of her cousins and siblings, she became the ringleader for adventures and mischief. She loved the freedom of the farm and took part in gardening, baking, and helping with chores. She had 4-H calves and won a belt buckle.
Judith was predeceased by parents Vera and John Gillanders, sister Laureen Gillanders and ex-husband Alberta Brausse.
She is survived by her loving sister Lynette Gillanders and brother Gerry Gillanders, sons (John & Dennis); her daughter Leah, grandchildren (Reise, Austen, Wyatt, and Emmalina, son Steve (Angel) grandsons Brayden and Josh and son Danny, granddaughter (Rorie).
Judy’s pride and joy was her acreage which she built from scratch. She spent endless hours turning her yard into a beautiful oasis which all her family enjoyed. She loved to cross country ski, take walks with her pets, and bake goodies. Judy crocheted many an afghan, knitted, played piano, collected, and refinished antiques as well as playing card games with family and her special friend Dave.
Judy was such an energetic lady who never seemed to slow down. In 2015, Judy suffered a stroke on her acreage which left her left side paralyzed. Due to the risks involved with living on her acreage, the family placed her at the Rising Sun Long Term care facility in Black Diamond “the digs,” where she stayed for almost ten years.
She also leaves behind her buddy Reba, her constant canine companion whom she raised from a troubled puppy to the kind soul she is today.
We will all miss Judy greatly but take comfort in knowing she is with her folks and sister. Her pain is over. She taught her family the value of a garden, how to love, be patient with each other and perseverance through the best and worst of life. She will be dancing in heaven in Gods beautiful garden.
The family wants to thank the staff at the Rising Sun Long Term facility for their dedication and compassion in caring for Judith. She made friends and took part in the many activities over the years, endearing herself to the staff and residents.
A “Celebration of Life” will be held in Judy’s honour at Snodgrass Funeral Home High River on March 22nd, 2025, at 1:30 pm.
If you wish, donations can be made in Judy’s honour to the Canadian Cancer Society to help rid us of this horrible disease.
