Joyce’s Obituary
In Loving Memory of Joyce Michelle Goodwin
November 26, 1964 – February 25, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Joyce Michelle Goodwin on February 25, 2025, shortly after arriving in Edmonton, Alberta, to begin a new chapter in her life. She was only 60 years old. Her passing has left her family and friends heartbroken and shocked.
Joyce was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and spent her early years in Middleton, Nova Scotia. She was a bright and active child, participating in school clubs, figure skating, the school band, and as a member of the Christian singing group Lightshine.
She is lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her brother, James, her sister-in-law Shyrose, her nieces Amanda and Holly, her ex-husband Norman Remley, her sister-in-law Chris, and their families. Joyce was predeceased by her beloved parents, Russell (2009) and Brenda (1998), whose passing from cancer was a heartbreaking loss to the family.
Joyce was a woman of many talents and passions. After studying at Nova Scotia Agricultural College in Truro, she pursued various professions throughout her life, working as a hairdresser, accountant, office manager, entrepreneur, and most recently, Assistant Parts Manager at Green Diamond Equipment, a John Deere distributor. However, her true passion was farming. Alongside her ex-husband, she cultivated soybeans, wheat, and corn on their land in Thorhild, Alberta. Nothing brought her more joy than being in the combine or harvester, bringing in the season’s crops.
Joyce also had a deep love for cooking and baking. A glimpse at her Facebook page would reveal countless recipes and photos of her delicious creations. She found joy in hearty meals and was known for bulk baking and cooking, always ensuring plenty to share. Her annual Christmas “Bits & Bites” was a cherished family tradition, made using her grandmother’s secret recipe and multiple boxes of Shreddies.
Beyond the kitchen, Joyce was always on the move. Whether on her treadmill, walking country lanes, or pacing the neighborhood, she tracked her steps diligently on her smartwatch, constantly setting and achieving new goals. This dedication played a key role in her remarkable weight-loss journey, a testament to her determination and strength.
A true farm girl at heart, Joyce never shied away from hard work. Whether repairing equipment, managing finances, painting, or even tackling plumbing repairs, she could make do with what she had and turn it into enough. Her strong values, resilience, and kindness left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
You always knew when Joyce was in the room—her favorite phrase, “Oh yah,” was often followed by her trademark laugh. She had a generous heart, was always willing to lend a hand, and firmly believed that kindness always came back.
