Joyce Evelyn Gertridge
– 96, formerly of Gaspereau, passed away peacefully in
Valley Hospice, Kentville on Saturday, March 8, 2025 surrounded by
family. Born September 13, 1928 in Brighton, Ontario, daughter of the
late Jesse and Ada (Merrells) Wheeler. She graduated from Peterborough
Civic Hospital in 1950 and worked as an R.N. in Peterborough, Ontario;
Nova Scotia Sanitorium in Kentville; and the E.K.M. Hospital in
Wolfville. She was an active member of Gaspereau Baptist Church, a
choir member for 66 years and held offices in Atlantic Baptist Women,
Women’s Missionary Society and Ladies’ Auxiliary.
She was a founding member of the Blomidon Naturalists Society and
enjoyed gardening, singing, reading, traveling and doing jigsaw
puzzles.
She was predeceased by
her husband, Ellis Gertridge; and siblings, Ruth, Dorothy, Joan and
Charles. She is survived by her four children, Holly, Sheila (Brian),
Alan (Tammy) and Ray (Dawn); and their children, Mark and Jamie;
Caelan; Chris, Colin, Ryan and Brenton; Hannah; stepdaughters, Karen
and Lisa; as well as their partners and many nieces and nephews. She
was a beloved GG to her great-grandchildren, Jackson, Alivia, Hayden,
Blake, Logan and Eliza; and step-grandmother to Isaac, Charlotte and
Elliott.
Cremation has taken
place and there will be no visitation, by request. An informal service
will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 12 in Gaspereau Baptist
Church, followed by a reception at the Gaspereau Community Hall. A
private family interment will take place in Gaspereau
Cemetery.
Family flowers only,
by request. Donations in memory may be made to Gaspereau Baptist
Church, Valley Hospice Foundation or a charity of choice. Funeral
arrangements have been entrusted to the White Family Funeral Home and
Cremation Services, Kentville.
