Jackson, Joseph So:sé
1957-2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph So:sé Jackson on Tuesday, March 18th, 2025 at the Cornwall Community Hospital at the age of 67 years. Cherished brother of Jerry Jackson (Johanne), Harriet Lazore (late Moses), Marion Thompson (Ricky), John Skidders (Kim) and Ralph Skidders. Uncle, godfather and chosen father of Darcy Jackson. Dear godfather of Agnes Johnston and Joey Thompson. We will be greatly missed by his sister-in-law Lorene Jackson (late Francis), his godmother Irene Cook (Andy), many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and many cousins. He is predeceased by his mother Julia Skidders (née Jackson) and his step-father Frank Skidders, his biological father Basil Lazore, two brothers Francis (Beatle) Skidders and Jess Skidders, three great-nieces Kyleigh McDonald, Hannah Jackson and Evie Jackson and one great-nephew Kolter John Jackson.
Joseph leaves behind a legacy of kindness, hard work and generosity. From a young age, Joseph was no stranger to hard work. He began as a paperboy in St. Regis and later worked on Solomon’s farm. As a young man, he served as an altar boy and spent time working on a tobacco farm in Toronto. His dedication to his community continued as he took on custodial roles at St. Regis School and Chenail Tsi Snaihne School, always ensuring the spaces were well cared for.
Joseph later operated his own floor-cleaning business, Joe Jackson Custodial Cleaning, where he was known for his meticulous work and willingness to help others. Never one to turn away from a neighbor in need, he often plowed driveways for the elderly and donated his time and expertise to cleaning floors whenever asked.
Beyond his work, Joseph found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and spending time on the river, often participating in local fishing tournaments and sharing his favorite fishing spots with his nieces and nephews. Summer days were spent riding his lawnmower, cutting grass for family and neighbors, always with a smile.
Joseph now joins his idol, the “Possum” George Jones, leaving behind a lifetime of memories and a community that will miss his generous spirit.
He will be dearly missed but never forgotten.
Joseph’s family will welcome loved ones and friends at the Akwesasne Homemaker Center, 1126 River Road, Akwesasne, QC from 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 20th, 2025.
Final words will be spoken at 11:00AM on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at the Homemaker’s Centre.
