Joseph Faulknor Obituary
Joseph John William Faulknor
March 30, 1937 – Feb 23, 2025
Joe passed away peacefully Sunday Feb 23, 2025 at Milton District Hospital.
Beloved husband of Betty (nee Sheldon). Cherished Father of Laurie and Steven (predeceased Oct 9, 1988). Loving Grandfather to Julie and Chris. Special Great Grandfather to Zoe, Mila, Dean and Iris. Dear Brother of Avril (pre-deceased), fun loving Uncle to Cynthia, David, Allison, Cameron, Brian and Valerie. Dear Brother-in-law of Leslie, son Hugh.
Joe was born and raised in Hamilton. He said he met the love of his life, Betty, at his cousin Olive Jean’s 16th birthday party. They were together ever since, 74 years, celebrating their 69th wedding anniversary this year. Joe was a devoted partner to Betty, he never wanted to be without her.
Joe was a kind, giving person always putting others first. Joe was an elder in the United Church, a Cub and Scout leader, hockey and baseball coach for his son Steven, a long-standing member of the Campbellville, then Mississauga Lions Club. While working at Purina, he was involved in the Seeing Eye Dog program. He volunteered when living in Hamilton, to be a mentor for those suffering from mental illness at a time when most were relegated to locked in psychiatric hospitals.
Joe had a love of auto racing which his son shared. Steven was a mechanic for an Indy car Team at the time of his accident. The family travelled to many races as a way to be close with Steven. The Dominos Indy Team welcomed us, remained close for years. It also gave us the opportunity to visit Joe’s American cousins.
Joe and Betty took early retirement to be snowbirds. They enjoyed many years in Florida with Joe’s sister Avril, husband Gil and cousin Ruby, husband Arnold. They purchased a timeshare in Ft. Lauderdale which his great grandchildren now love to travel to.
Joe worked nights at the post office to put himself through university to become an Accountant which brought the family to Campbellville when Joe accepted a job at PL Robertson’s. They enjoyed many years there and the family made life-long friends. Joe and Betty moved to Mini Lakes in Guelph during this time, it was a wonderful retirement community. Joe organized Euchre, Darts, Bocchi, the annual Kids Fishing Derby, spent hours in the garden so Betty could enjoy the beauty.
As someone close to Joe said, he was a “gentleman of gentlemen”. We will miss him dearly but he gave us a loving, supportive, kind, caring, adventure filled life.
Family and friends are invited to McKersie & Early Funeral Home, 114 Main St. E. Milton, on Sunday, March 9, 2025 with visitation from 10:00 am – 11:30 am, Memorial Service 11:30 am and a reception to follow.
To celebrate Joe’s life, if you would like to make a donation to www.heartandstroke.ca, www.bereavedfamilies.ca/ or a charity that is important to you. Thank you.

“Plant a Tree” – Explained
When Trees are purchased as a memorial tribute; our forestry partners work with their networks of planting partners throughout North America and trees are planted wherever reforestation is needed most at that time. We leave it up to our forestry experts and planting partners to decide where the needs are. Also, the type of tree that is planted will vary by planting region. Our planting partners decide what appropriately grows in the region, and what is best for the environment and maintenance of the area.
