Joseph Clement Marchand
1944 – 2025
It is with great sadness that we, the family of Joseph Clement (Clem) Marchand, announce his passing at the St. Anne Nursing Care Centre in Arichat on February 2, 2025.
Born on May 28, 1944, in Pondville South, he was the son of the late Joseph Étienne and Elizabeth Martha (Samson) Marchand.
Clem had a wide range of interests. He was employed as a Survey Rodman for some time and also worked for the federal government. He excelled in the Sciences as well as Mathematics and taught adult education in multiple locations in Nova Scotia for many years. He was a brilliant man who had a love of reading and learning. This love of learning led him to write books until his health issues became too great for him to continue. In his later years, he could be seen walking the loop from Pondville South to Pondville North, stopping to visit relatives along the way. He will be missed.
Clem is survived by his sisters Odille (Bill) Campbell, and Lena (Alex) Bonin, both of Pondville South; Madeleine Marchand and Mary Jane (John) Armstrong, both of Ottawa; Jeannette (Joe) Landry, of Pondville South; as well as brothers André (Edith) Marchand, of New Glasgow; Alfred (Bernadette) Marchand, and Alexandre Marchand, both of Pondville South.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Margaret (Amrit) Vig, of Cole Harbour; and his brothers-in-law Bill Campbell and Alex Bonin.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no visitation. Memorial service and burial will be held at a later date.
