With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jonathan Ewart Eby, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and accomplished creative visionary. Jonathan passed away peacefully on January 13, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Toronto, Canada, to Harold Eby and Verne Harber, Jonathan was later guided in life by his stepfather, Howard Callis. He is predeceased by his sister, Ruth Dias (nee Eby).
Jonathan is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Pamela Jeanne Eby (née Cunningham); his children, Jennifer (Edmund Remazki), Karen (Jonah Tredger), and Colin; and his granddaughters, Marley and Abigail Tredger.
Jonathan’s passion for creativity and storytelling shaped an extraordinary career that spanned decades. At 27 he was the youngest ever art director for MacClean’s Magazine, and was the former art director of major publications with Comac Communications, such as Homemaker’s Magazine, City Woman, and Quest earning prestigious awards and accolades, including Gold and Silver Medals from the National Magazine Awards.
Later, Jonathan pursued freelance design and publishing from his home in the Toronto Beaches, and after moving north to Georgian Bay he joined the Southeast Georgian Bay Gazette and the Bulletin Publishing Company bringing the publication into a new era — a passion that carried him through his later years.
Jonathan’s creative vision was rivaled only by his devotion to his family and friends. His legacy endures through the countless lives he touched—through his artistry, leadership, and unconditional love for his family. His memory will remain a source of inspiration to all who knew him.
There will be no immediate service, however, we will announce a celebration of life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to a charity of choice in Jonathan’s memory, and may be made through the Funeral Home.
Rest easy, Jon— Dad. We carry your legacy proudly and we will forever love you.
