It is with great sadness that we announce that John Douglas Robinson passed peacefully at home on Monday, February 10, surrounded by his family. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 69 years and best friend of 76 years, Marion and his children, Joanne (John) VanderLaan, Mike (Lisa), Ron (Lisa), and Bill (Carol-Ann). He is also missed by his grandchildren, Erin (Chris), Ashley, Michael (Yesenia), Richard (Rachel), Leah, Julia (Dana) and Joseph (Shelby), and his great-grandchildren, Penny, Beckett, Charles and Madeline. Doug will be dearly missed by his surviving brother, Bob (Helen) and extended family.
Doug taught for 22 years at Grimsby Secondary School, after a life of farming, mining, and sales. He often spoke fondly of former students. In retirement, Doug and Marion travelled and enjoyed volunteering at the Grimsby Benevolent Fund (GBF). They also enjoyed spending time at the cottage they built in northern Ontario.
The family would like to thank the staff on C Ward, the palliative team at WLMH, and the Ontario Home Health team that gently cared for Doug during his final days.
Visitation at STONEHOUSE-WHITCOMB FUNERAL HOME, 11 Mountain Street, GRIMSBY (905-945-2755) on Thursday, February 13th 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 135 Livingston Avenue, Grimsby on Friday, February 14th 2025 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grimsby Benevolent Fund (GBF) or St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Grimsby.
