DUNCAN, JOHN DAVID
Unexpectedly, but peacefully, surrounded by his family on March 14, 2025, John died in his 72nd year. Survived by Susan, his wife and soul mate of 48 years. Beloved father of Jennifer Steele of Roblin and Julia (Steve) Day of Victoria, BC. Adored Papa to Victoria (Brett) Webb, Zack Lafreniere, Maggie Lafreniere, and Jacob Steele. Papa John was loved by his 3 great-grandchildren, Anna, Marlee and Spencer Webb and he loved them right back. John will be missed deeply by his brother Bob (Lynn) Duncan and his sister Colleen (Martin) Oomen and many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law of Philip, Ken and Roger Colborne and Kate Buelow. He will also be deeply missed by the Glover family. Predeceased by his parents Jim and Trudy Duncan and his in-laws Keith and Phyllis Colborne.
John heroically fought his 11 year battle with cancer maintaining a positive attitude throughout. He was a dedicated volunteer firefighter for 48 years, a proud paramedic for 41 years, an active member of the Parish of Leeds Rear Anglican Church and a valued member of the Elgin and California communities. Everyone who knew John loved and respected him.
The family will receive friends at the Scotland Funeral Home, 27 Main Street, Elgin on Tuesday, March 18th from 1:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Funeral service in the Chapel on Wednesday, March 19th at 11:00 o’clock. Reception to follow at the Elgin Lions Club. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation-Cancer Centre. Interment will take place in St. John’s Leeds Anglican Cemetery at a later date.
