John Large Obituary
John Charles Large (May 1, 1947- March 30, 2025)
John is survived by both his children, Jane Anne Large and Daniel John Large, as well as his grandchildren, Liam and Eli Large (Daniel’s sons) and Daniel’s fiancée, Ashley Boucher. He will be missed by his siblings: Peter Large, Mary Balfe (nee Large), Elizabeth Goodwin (nee Large) and Mark Large, as well as countless nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his parents, Charles Frederick Large (former Reverend at St John’s the Divine Anglican Church in North Bay from 1951-1972) and Patricia Delphine Large (nee Cameron).
John was born at Fort William, Ontario (Fort William and Port Arthur now make up Thunder Bay). At the time of John’s birth, his father was Reverend at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Nipigon, where the family lived until 1951. John grew up predominantly in North Bay, Ontario, and lived in North Bay the majority of his life. In North Bay, his family lived in a beautiful home at the corner of Copeland and Plouffe (now Bell) Streets. His family spent summers at the cottage his father built on Clear Lake in Muskoka, then later at the new cottage on Trout Lake in North Bay. John will also be remembered for building a boat called a seaflea that provided endless fun for his family and friends, as well as his love of waterskiing barefoot (which he continued into his late 30’s). John had a special bond with horses and helped his father Charlie look after them at the family’s Trout Lake property and later at their farm down the highway in Corbeil. He attended many horse shows with his father, winning awards with the Arabian horses. John was a creative soul and will be remembered for his talents as an artist, a respected home designers and builder, and a master carpenter.
John was well-known in the community and will be missed by many long-time friends and acquaintances.
The community is invited to offer their condolences to John’s family at a public visitation on Saturday, May 3, from 10am-1pm, at Hillside Funeral Services. A private memorial and burial will take place for family and close friends at St John’s Anglican Cemetery in North Bay, Ontario.
In lieu of flowers, please offer donations in kind to the Gathering Place in North Bay, Ontario.
