John Dalton Obituary
With deep sadness, we announce the passing of John Charles Dalton on February 26, 2025. Doing what he loved, listening to his music, and being surrounded by family and friends, he left this world peacefully, leaving behind a lifetime of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
The son of Edward and Maria Dalton, John grew up in Sydney Mines and spent his adult life working 38 years in the coal mines. Many and most of his stories were of those “Good Old Days,” when he would tell us tales and fables of how things used to be. Most of them we have heard before, but all of them brought a smile and a laugh to the face of anyone who would listen.
John is survived by his special friend, Doreen Pentecost; his children, sons Charlie and Edward, as well as daughter Maria (Gordon); his grandchildren, Tyler, Darren, Garrett, Catherine, Ashlyn, Alyssa, Samantha, Amie, Stephanie, and Ethan; and his great-grandchildren, Jace and Alya. He will also be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Doris, Linda, and Mary Eileen, as well as many close friends from in town and the Pitt.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by a son, John, at infancy, Sister Margaret LeBlanc, Rose Long, May O’Connor, and Maureen Brogan, and his brother Edward, lifelong friends Herbie Snow and Tommy Corkey who he treated as a son.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the Doctors, Nurses, and staff at the Northside General for taking care of Dad over the past year. As well as the many friends who helped offering there time, food and kindness to John and his family.
John’s warmth, wisdom, and unwavering love for his family and friends will be deeply missed but never forgotten. A Visitation will be held at JM Jobes Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 5th, from 2-4; a Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, March 6th, at 11 am at Holy Family Parish. All who knew him are welcome to attend.
