John Alexander Rock passed away Saturday, April 12, 2025, on his way to dinner. He had been a resident of Fergus Place in Kitchener for the last 4 months, and mealtime was something he looked forward to every day.
He leaves his loving wife Francine to mourn his passing along with their children Kevin, Terrence (Jen), Jonathan (Julia), Daniel, (Jagoda), Timothy, Marie Claire and his siblings, Michael, Mary and Patricia. John was the beloved son of the late Ralph and Beatrice Rock. He was pre-deceased by his siblings, Kathy, Janet and Ken.
His faith was his guiding compass in love and life. John loved his family, sunny days and beaches, long drives with music from the 70’s, plaid shirts and jeans, farming, investments and watching the stock market.
He was the former owner of Rock Insurance in Cambridge, taking over his father’s business in 1985 and continuing until 2017. He considered himself an avid entrepreneur, founding several ventures starting with the Cambridge Stamp Shop, Rock Marketing and Consulting, and John Rock Investments. He had a keen interest in investing and always looked for start up ideas and decided that he wanted to eventually retire to one of his first loves, farming. He and Francine bought a farm in Woodstock, Ontario and with the help of his children, he began a second career. He started with a turkey operation, and moved on to sheep and veal production, wrapping up in June of 2016. He continued to grow crops and work as an insurance broker, finally retiring in 2024 when he received the devasting diagnosis of Frontal Temporal Dementia.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the Staff of Fergus Place Retirement Community for their commitment and compassionate care of John. Special thanks to Dr. Diane Humphrey for her help in managing John’s care. Also deeply appreciated are the thoughtful and caring services of Corbett Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held at Corbett Funeral Home, 95 Dundas St. N, Cambridge on Tuesday April 22, 2025, from 6-9 p.m. with prayers at 8 p.m. Memorial Service will take place at St. Gregory’s Roman Catholic Church, 10 St Gregory’s Dr, Cambridge, on Wednesday April 23, 2025 at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests considering memorial donations to the Dale E. Creighton Brain and BioBank of London Ontario, ALS Canada or The Alzheimer Society of Ontario.
