February 24, 1944 – February 24, 2025
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Joaquim (Joe, Jack, ‘Quim) on his 81st birthday after a lengthy illness. Joe passed away peacefully at home, as was his wish.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Maria, who was his everything. A devoted father to Paul (Jan) and Dan (Lori), ‘Quim was also a cherished Avo and Amoré Grampa to his adored grandchildren: Sarah, Isabelle, Nick, and Carson. Family was his greatest joy, and he was endlessly proud of each and every one of them.
Born in Portugal, Joaquim immigrated to Canada in the 1960s and embraced both his birthland and his new home with deep love and pride. He worked tirelessly to share Portuguese culture with his Canadian friends and was a dedicated member of the Portuguese community, beloved by all who knew him.
Joe’s passion for soccer was unmatched. Many weekend afternoons were spent watching his favorite team, Benfica. His lifelong rivalry with Maria, a devoted Sporting fan, made every Benfica victory even sweeter.
A hardworking man, Joe was an employee at Chrysler, working the majority of his time at Plant 6 and ending his 32 year career at Plant 3. He took great pride in knowing he played a role in the vehicles people drove. In addition, he and Maria ran Bartolo Janitorial, cleaning banks across the area to provide their boys with the Canadian dream.
Joaquim had a remarkable ability to turn strangers into friends. Whether it was offering a glass of wine, sharing a meal, or lending a helping hand, he made sure no one went without. His infectious laugh and love for life made the world a better place for those lucky enough to know him.
In Joaquim’s honor, donations can be made to Windsor Regional Hospital Renal Dialysis Unit or The Kidney Foundation of Canada. The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to Eazy Lyft (A.B.), Paramed, and the Hotel-Dieu Grace Dialysis Unit for their kindness and compassion.
As per Joaquim’s wishes, he will be cremated, and a private service will be held for immediate family. Instead, we ask that you honour his memory by sharing kindness and love with everyone you meet—just as Joaquim always did.
He loved each and every one of you. xxoo
