Obituary of Joan Marie Worden
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Joan (Record) Worden, wife of the late Vaughan Worden, announces her passing which occurred on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at Rocmaura Nursing Home. Joan was born on April 11, 1935, in Saint John, NB, and was the daughter of the late Ranford and Beatrice (Downey) Record.
Joan will be remembered for her zest for life and bright sense of humour. She loved to laugh and to make others laugh as well. She loved her family and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Though born in Saint John, Joan found her solace in Grand Bay-Westfield, where she was surrounded by the beautiful valleys and rivers Grand Bay provided. Joan was a gentle soul who had a kinship with animals, especially her cat companions. Anyone who knows Joan knows, her heart truly belonged to the Montreal Canadiens, whom she was an avid sports fan of. She was a longstanding member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church and was a Silver Cross Mother for the Grand Bay Legion. Joan loved to be social and enjoyed her time as a member of the Red Hatter Society. Joan’s family hopes that you think of her when you pet a cat, spend time by the river, or catch a Canadiens hockey game.
She is survived by her children: Barry Worden of Summerville, Lynn (Rick) Cashol of Saint John, Mark (Wendy) Worden of Grand Bay-Westfield, Michael Worden of Saint John, and Stephen (Shelley) Worden of Moncton; her sister Gloria Moore of Saint John and her sister-in-law, Margaret Record of Saint John; beloved grandchildren: Aaron Worden; Tanya Moriarty and Meagan Cashol; Ryan Worden and Melanie McCluskey; Channing and Tyler Worden; and Shanna and Sarah Worden; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents, her husband Vaughan; brothers, Donald and Joey Record; and grandson Nathan Worden.
Arrangements are under the care of Brenan’s Funeral Home, 111 Paradise Row, Saint John, NB, (506-634-7424) with visiting on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00-11:00 AM with a Funeral Liturgy to follow in Brenan’s Chapel at 11:00 AM. Interment will take place in Cedar Hill Extension Cemetery following the service. For those who wish donations to a local food bank, St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Grand Bay-Westfield, or Rocmaura Nursing Home would be appreciated by the family.
