Jennifer Amanda Heaton Vlahakis Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Jennifer Amanda Heaton Vlahakis, on January 10, 2025, at the age of 39. After a fierce battle with cancer, Jennifer passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital.
A sincere thank you to the many amazing nurses, doctors, and other staff who have been involved in Jennifer’s care over many years.
Jennifer was born in Ajax, Ontario, and moved to Kingston at age 8. She attended Bayridge Secondary School and was diagnosed with leukemia at age 15. Her determination shone through as she struggled to complete High School while fighting her disease for 3 years. After graduation, as she was preparing for her first year of university, she received the news that her leukemia had returned. True to her spirit, she fought for 3 more years while continuing her studies — many times, studying while hospitalized. The unfaltering resilience that Jennifer demonstrated throughout these years was an inspiration to all who knew her.
In 2010, after finally beating leukemia, Jennifer graduated from Queen’s University with a Bachelor of Commerce degree, remarkably, with First Class standing. She went on to have a successful career and most recently, was a senior manager at CMC Microsystems where she was well liked and respected.
Along with her strength and determination, Jennifer was known for her thoughtfulness, kindness, and compassion as well as her passion for life. She was a voice of reason to many, and her vibrant spirit was infectious to those around her.
Jennifer’s compassion was evident beginning in childhood when she fostered kitten families from the Humane Society. As a teenager, she sponsored a child from another country, and during her weekly leukemia treatments at the Children’s Cancer Center, Jennifer lovingly befriended and helped the younger children. In her adulthood, when she passed a homeless person on the street, she sometimes would buy them a meal or a coffee. These are but a few examples of her beautiful heart that was always full of kindness and compassion.
Jennifer’s passion shone through in everything she did, particularly when it involved her children who were her greatest joy and gave her fulfillment in life. She dressed up with them on Halloween, she threw amazing birthday parties, and she tried with all her heart to give them memories full of magic and love. Jennifer was also sincerely present for, and willing to help, her family and friends when they needed her.
Jennifer will be truly missed by her husband, the love of her life, Jordon (Jordy); her two beautiful children, Charlotte and Olivia, whom she loved with all her heart; her parents, Sharon (Shari) and Bryce Kennedy; her niece, Peyton MacNeil; her sisters and brothers, Stephanie Kennedy MacNeil (Brad) of Kingston, Franklyn Heaton of Beaverton, Landon Heaton of Matheson, and Melissa Heaton of Beaverton; her grandparents, Marilyn Cull of Deep River, Tom and Rhondda Aman of Ottawa, and Carmel Kennedy of Kingston; her Mother and Father-in-law, Susan Vlahakis and Kevin Revell; and her brother-in-law, Jason Vlahakis. She will also be missed by her many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.
Although she is gone, Jennifer’s spirit shines on through those she has touched. Her wish for her children, family, and friends, was that we carry her spirit in our hearts as we go on to find joy, passion, and meaning in our lives, and that we mirror her determination and compassion, knowing how precious life is.
The family will be accepting visitors on Friday, January 17, 2025, at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, Kingston from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
A funeral service will be held at James Reid Funeral Home, on Saturday, January 18th, 2025, at 11:00 am, followed by interment at Cataraqui Cemetery.
Children are welcome! *** Parents, please be aware that the visitation will be open casket.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Make-a-Wish Canada would put a smile on Jennifer’s face.
