Obituary of Jeanette Paul
PAUL, Jeanette May – age 71, of Sipekne’katik, passed away on May 8, 2025, in Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Truro. Born in Truro, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence F. Paul and Ethel (Cope) Paul of Membertou. Jeanette grew up in Membertou, and later lived in Boston, Massachusetts, and spent most of her life in Sipekne’katik until her passing.
Jeanette lived her life with fire in her heart — adventurous, spontaneous, and unapologetically bold. A true matriarch, she was the anchor of her family and a pillar of strength. To those who knew her, Jeanette was a woman who lived fiercely, loved to travel, and never waited for permission to make her mark. Whether it was impromptu road trips, spontaneous gatherings that turned into legendary events, or lending her voice to causes she believed in, Jeanette followed her instincts and never backed down. Her presence, unique voice and laughter were magnetic, and she raised her children instilling in them the same strength and fire that defined her. Jeanette achieved her Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree in Education from Mount Saint Vincent University and worked a variety of jobs in Education, Social, Justice, and Economic Development. Jeanette also encouraged her children to work hard and achieve their dreams through pursuing their education. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and living boldly that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Jeanette’s greatest pride was her family.
She is survived by her loving children, Vanessa Nevin, Melissa Nevin, Timothy Nevin (Lucina Morris-Nevin), Courtney Nevin, and Jenna Marr; her 11 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her devoted siblings, Ethel Paul Landolt, Lauria Ann Paul, Lawrence (Quism) G. Paul (Louise Paul), Anna Paul, Adrian Paul (Shiela Ginnish-Paul), and Eileen Paul. She will also be missed deeply by her godchildren, Christine Nevin, Ashley Stevens (Paul), Bethany Maloney, and Leander (Little Lefty) Paul III; many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends and chosen family throughout Mi’kma’ki, who will remember her laugh, her courage, and her unwavering spirit.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, Lawrence F. Paul and Ethel (Cope) Paul, and her sister, Karen Paul Denny; nieces, Tina Paul and Wendy Denny; nephews, Darryl Paul and Brian Nevin.
In honouring Jeanette, may we carry forward her legacy by living fully, loving loudly, and standing strong — just as she always did.
Services are under the direction of Ettinger Funeral Home, Shubenacadie. The wake will take place at her home at 33 Eagle Nest Ave, Indian Brook, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, and continue until the funeral on Wednesday, May 14 at 11:00 a.m., held at Saint Kateri Tekakwitha Church in Indian Brook. Burial will take place at a later date.
