Obituary of Janice Faye Wishart
The death of Janice “Jan” F. Wishart (née Johnston) occurred at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital on February 3, 2025. Jan was the wife of W. Huntley Wishart of Fredericton. She was the youngest child of the late Murray F. and Pearl G. (King) Johnston of Lincoln, NB, and the last surviving member of her family of origin.
Born in Lincoln, January 21, 1933, Janice was predeceased by her parents, two brothers, Alva and Francis (Buddy), two sisters, Vivian Charters and Glenna Murdock, sister-in-law Annie Johnston, and brothers-in-law Gerald Charters and Bob Murdock.
Janice is survived by her husband, Huntley, son Neil (Karen) of Fredericton, NB, grandchildren Laura (Connor Hilliard) of Vancouver, BC, and Brent of Fredericton, NB, her daughter Heather Wishart (Mike Auger) and Murphy their dog of Enfield, New Hampshire, as well as nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of Fredericton High School followed by Teachers’ College in 1950 and taught in New Brunswick and Ottawa. As a teacher, Jan recognized the importance of education and promoted it to her family and students. Janice was a member of the Fredericton Society of St. Andrew and Monarchist League of Canada NB Chapter, a board member of the NB Osteoporosis Society, and an honourary member of Sir Howard Douglas Chapter I.O.D.E. Jan volunteered at the Pine Grove Nursing Home and NB Lung Association, canvassed for the NB Diabetes Society, NB Heart and Stroke Association, and NB Osteoporosis Society, and raised funds for activities of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of NB.
Janice took great interest in her children and grandchildren’s extra-curricular activities: music, swimming, fencing, horse-back riding, and curling to acknowledge a few. She was a proud supporter of these activities as well as a tenacious fundraiser. She enjoyed reading, music, flowers and especially gravitated to dogs and cats. Above all, Jan was intelligent, charismatic, kind, and compassionate. She was the light of Huntley’s life and a great mother and grandmother.
A memorial gathering will be held McAdam’s Funeral Home, 160 York Street, Fredericton NB, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, 3-5 pm. Special words from the family will occur around 3:30 pm. Interment will occur at a later date.
The family would like to extend special thanks to friends, caregivers, and medical care providers for their support and compassion over the years.
Memorial donations in Jan’s name may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
Arrangements are entrusted to McAdam’s Funeral Home, Fredericton.
