With broken hearts, we announce the passing of Janie Connie Billings (nee Vanos) on July 26, 2025, at the age of 62, surrounded by love.
Beloved wife of John Billings for 33 wonderful years. Devoted and cherished mother of Brianne (Mike) Avis and Tyler Hughes. Proud and adoring Oma to Rowan and Finnley Avis, who brought her endless joy.
She was the daughter of Irma and Marty Vanos, stepdaughter of Ollie Manning and partner Rikie Nooyen. Janie will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Joan (John) Van Engelen, Connie (Mike) Van Engelen, Bonnie Vanos (Rick Henry), and Deb (Max) Gowdy. Cherished by the Billings family, she leaves behind Dave (Angela) Billings, and Al Billings. Janie will also be deeply missed by Michael Hughes and the extended Hughes family, along with her many nieces and nephews, and an incredibly wide circle of friends.
Janie had a deep love for nature and trees, and found peace in the simple joys of reading, crafting, coloring, and decorating. A devoted dog mom to her sweet Ebby, she brought warmth and creativity into every space she touched. She was the kind of person who lit up a room, brought such joy to ordinary days, and laughter to places that needed it most. Above all, Janie’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, whom she adored beyond measure.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 17, 2025, from 2:00–5:00 p.m. at the Forest Legion.
