After a courageous 10 year battle with Cancer Jane (53) passed away on Friday January 3, 2025 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, surrounded by her family and friends.
Jane leaves behind her beloved wife Anji of 17 years. Dear mother of Dunai, Acacia and Ethan. Loved GiGi of Mikey. Dear sister of Jim (Kim) and aunt of Lynda (Dane). Lovingly remembered by her mother-in-law Julie and sister-in-law Cathie (Stelios). Sadly missed by her “Nona” Marika, cousin Diane, family in New York and Scotland, and cherished friends Amanda and Erica. Jane was predeceased by her parents James and Anne Currie.
Jane had a huge love for plants, traveling, adventures and spending time with her large circle of friends and family. Jane had a dynamic personality, a zest for life and a smile that would light up a room. She had eyes that would glisten from afar and real lashes that you catch anyone’s attention. She saw the opportunity to make things better for everyone and was determined to make a difference for people. After her Cancer diagnosis, Jane became a Champion for the (DRCC) Durham Region Cancer Centre at Lakeridge Health Oshawa and founded the “Better Clinic” for patients and families to be supported throughout their Cancer Journey. She participated on the Patient Advisory Committee at LHO and volunteered in the Palliative Care Unit. Jane and Anji were leaders in Fundraising for the Lakeridge Health Foundation and helped to raise over $24 Million for the “THIS IS OUR CANCER” campaign in 2023. Jane led the hospital to establish a Genealogical Cancer Surgical Unit at LHO for patients to have local care. Jane was a huge advocate for the LGBTQ Community as well and was one of the original founders of “Pride Prom” for local students to have a safe Prom experience. She and Anji were proud to be local PFLAG Chapter Leaders.
The family would like sincerely thank the outstanding medical support they received over the years from Dr.Li and her Nurses Paulette and Amanda, Dr.Niglis, Dr. Go, and their tremendous teams at Lakeridge Health Oshawa. They would also like to thank Dr.Dhani, Dr. Mak and their entire team at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre. The family would also love to thank Garrett Metcalfe for all the hard work he has put in throughout the years.

Funeral will be held on Sunday January 12th, 2025 at 12 noon at Armstrong Funeral Home followed by
Reception 1pm right after the Funeral Service at The Royal Canadian Legion
